SOULED OUT
Press Release 04/08/08
Tuned in, turned on and seriously souled out…
Synopsis
The feature film Souled Out begins principle photography in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, this August. An Ipso Facto Films and Dreamfinder production, the film tells the story of a young man discovering the Northern Soul scene of 1974. Power cuts, strikes and boot-boy aggro on the terraces. Flares, Chopper bikes and beer at fourteen pence a pint. Joe McCain, 17 and restless, is bored with the flatline tedium of a life that seems like it’s going nowhere, and a best mate he’s drifting apart from. Jane enters his life, moving to the beat of a music that Joe’s never heard, a vision of loveliness who opens the door to a whole world of sound, sex, and all-nighter dancing at The Wigan Casino - the home of Northern Soul. Swept along on this tide of pulsating dance and lust, Joe finally finds somewhere he belongs and the acceptance and true love he yearns for.
Cast and other talent
BAFTA-award winning actor Martin Compston (Sweet Sixteen, Red Road) plays the lead-role as Joe McCain, supported by a host of great acting talent; Craig Parkinson (Control), Nichola Burley (Donkey Punch), Alfie Allen (Atonement) and Palme d’Or winner Pat Shortt (Man about Dog, Garage). Irish director Shimmy Marcus (Headrush, Aiden Walsh: Master of the Universe) will be visualising Jeff Williams’ exciting screenplay, for the release scheduled for summer 2009. Original music to the film will be recorded by The Dap Kings, the band of Grammy Award-winners Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson, along with vocal appearances from Paul Weller and Duffy.
Backstory
Souled Out has been in development for five years, and is now ready to begin shooting what is guaranteed to be a major indie hit. With the recent resurgence of interest in Northern Soul music, the time has never been better to release an honest, upbeat, grass-roots film about the Northern Soul heyday of 1974, featuring the cream of upcoming British talent.
News
Souled Out is recruiting extras and dancers for the film. Crucial to the film’s storyline are the complex club dance scenes, for which the production needs 1,000 great dancers and 70s-clad extras.
An open casting session is being held on Saturday 9th August, 0900 – 1300, at the Information Center, Stoke Campus, Staffordshire University. You’ll simply be measured up and photographed, and then we will be in touch over the following week to arrange your filming days. Simple as that!
Or, if you are not able make this session, you can register your details and a photo quickly and easily online: www.ipsofactofilms.com/souledout
We’re looking for extras and dancers to help recreate the magic of Wigan Casino, between 19th and 29th August.
